About Jahangir’s Tomb

The Tomb of Emperor Jahangir, built by his son Shah Jahan around 1637 at Shahdara Bagh across the Ravi, is one of Lahore’s most graceful Mughal monuments. Set in a formal garden, the single-storey tomb is famed for its pietra dura inlay and four corner minarets.

Nearby lie the tombs of Empress Noor Jahan and Asif Khan, making Shahdara a serene complex of Mughal funerary architecture.

Highlights

  • The cenotaph — Inlaid marble with the 99 names of God.
  • Four minarets — Slender towers at each corner of the tomb.
  • Garden setting — A classic charbagh (four-part garden).
  • Pietra dura — Fine semi-precious stone inlay throughout.
