Overview

Harappa, in Punjab about 200 km southwest of Lahore, gave its name to the entire Harappan (Indus Valley) Civilization. Alongside Mohenjo Daro, it was one of the two great cities of this Bronze Age culture, with excavated granaries, a cemetery, city walls and a site museum holding seals, pottery and jewelry recovered from the mounds.

Being in Punjab rather than Sindh, Harappa is comfortably reachable in a single long day from Lahore by private vehicle, no flight required, making it an accessible way to see Indus Valley archaeology without committing to the longer Mohenjo Daro expedition.

FAQs

How far is Harappa from Lahore?
About 200 km, roughly a 4-hour drive each way by private vehicle, comfortably done as a long day trip.
What’s the difference between this and Mohenjo Daro?
Harappa and Mohenjo Daro were twin capitals of the same civilization. Harappa is a day trip from Lahore by road; Mohenjo Daro is further south in Sindh and needs our multi-day tour with a domestic flight.
Is there much to see at the site itself?
The mounds are more subtle than a standing monument like a fort, but the site museum brings the finds to life, and your guide explains what’s been excavated and why it matters.
Is this tour private?
Yes, every tour is fully private: your own party, your own licensed guide and your own air-conditioned vehicle. Nothing is shared with strangers, and the pace flexes around you.
Do you provide hotel or airport pickup?
Yes. We collect you from your Lahore hotel or from Allama Iqbal International Airport at no extra cost within the city, and drop you back afterwards. We track your flight, so delays are no problem.
Can this tour be customized?
Absolutely. Tell us your interests, pace and any must-sees or must-avoids, and we tailor the trip around you.
What languages do your guides speak?
English-speaking licensed guides are our standard. Italian, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Arabic-speaking guides can be arranged on request, subject to availability.
How and when do I pay?
No payment is taken online. We confirm availability and a firm total price first; a deposit secures your dates, with the balance due before or at the start of the tour. Bank transfer, Wise, card and PayPal are accepted.
What is your cancellation policy?
Fair and flexible, exact terms are confirmed in writing when you book. See our cancellation & refund policy for details.
Is Pakistan safe for tourists?
The main visitor areas are busy, welcoming and well-policed, and all our tours run with licensed guides and private drivers. See our honest safety overview and check your government’s current advisory.
