Mosque Visit Etiquette

Visiting Lahore’s mosques — Badshahi, Wazir Khan and others — is a highlight, and a little etiquette ensures a respectful, welcome visit.

Dress

Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees for everyone. Women should carry a scarf to cover their hair inside prayer halls (our guides carry spares).

Shoes

Removed before entering prayer areas and often courtyards. Slip-on shoes make this easy; there are shoe-storage points (a small fee, handled on our tours).

Timing

Non-worshippers should avoid prayer times, especially the busy Friday midday prayer. We schedule visits around them.

Behaviour

Speak quietly, don’t walk in front of people praying, and be discreet with photography (allowed in courtyards, often not during prayers). Non-Muslims are welcome to visit outside prayer times at Lahore’s major mosques.

Ramadan & Fridays

Extra sensitivity applies; your guide will advise on timing and conduct.

Follow your guide’s lead and you’ll be warmly received — these are living places of worship, and visitors who show respect are genuinely welcomed.

Common questions

Can non-Muslims enter mosques in Lahore?
Yes — Badshahi and other major mosques welcome respectful visitors of all faiths outside prayer times.
Do I need to cover my hair?
Women do inside prayer halls; men don’t. Scarves are provided if you don’t have one.
