Overview
For travelers short on time, flying is the way into Baltistan, a spectacular hop over the Karakoram from Islamabad straight to Skardu, weather permitting. This package is built entirely around that flight, so instead of days of driving you spend nearly all five days exploring: the turquoise Shangrila and Upper Kachura lakes, the otherworldly cold desert along the Indus, and the restored forts of Shigar and Khaplu.
It pairs naturally with a short Lahore stay before or after, or can run as a standalone Skardu package if you’re already in Islamabad. Priced on request for your dates and group size.
Itinerary
- Day 1 · Fly to SkarduMorning flight Lahore–Islamabad–Skardu (subject to weather); transfer to your hotel and an easy first afternoon, with a viewpoint stop at Kharpocho Fort.

Good to know
- Skardu flights run roughly April–October and are strictly weather-dependent, we recommend not booking onward international flights the same day you return.
- Because everything hinges on the flight, we always confirm a road-contingency plan (a long drive via the Karakoram Highway) before you travel.
- Nights can be cool even in summer; layers are useful.
- Deosai Plains can replace Khaplu on Day 4 between June and September, when the plateau road is open.
Before you go
What to bring
- Comfortable walking shoes for uneven ground
- Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) or warm layers for cold desert/winter nights
- A refillable water bottle

- Some cash for snacks, tips and small purchases
- Your camera or phone, and any personal medication

Dress & etiquette
Modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is best; women need a headscarf inside mosque and gurdwara prayer halls (our guides carry spares) and shoes come off at religious sites. Please ask before photographing people. See what to wear and mosque etiquette.
