Overview

For travelers short on time, flying is the way into Baltistan, a spectacular hop over the Karakoram from Islamabad straight to Skardu, weather permitting. This package is built entirely around that flight, so instead of days of driving you spend nearly all five days exploring: the turquoise Shangrila and Upper Kachura lakes, the otherworldly cold desert along the Indus, and the restored forts of Shigar and Khaplu.

It pairs naturally with a short Lahore stay before or after, or can run as a standalone Skardu package if you’re already in Islamabad. Priced on request for your dates and group size.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 · Fly to SkarduMorning flight Lahore–Islamabad–Skardu (subject to weather); transfer to your hotel and an easy first afternoon, with a viewpoint stop at Kharpocho Fort.
  2. Day 2 · Shangrila & Kachura LakesShangrila (Lower Kachura) and Upper Kachura lakes, and the surreal cold desert dunes by the Indus.
  3. Day 3 · Shigar ValleyShigar Fort and the old town, the Manthal Buddha rock carving, and Skardu bazaar.
  4. Day 4 · KhapluA day trip to the restored Khaplu Palace and valley (or the Deosai Plains instead, June–September, if you prefer).
  5. Day 5 · Fly backMorning flight Skardu–Islamabad–Lahore, with drop-off at your hotel or the airport.

Good to know

  • Skardu flights run roughly April–October and are strictly weather-dependent, we recommend not booking onward international flights the same day you return.
  • Because everything hinges on the flight, we always confirm a road-contingency plan (a long drive via the Karakoram Highway) before you travel.
  • Nights can be cool even in summer; layers are useful.
  • Deosai Plains can replace Khaplu on Day 4 between June and September, when the plateau road is open.

Before you go

What to bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes for uneven ground
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) or warm layers for cold desert/winter nights
  • A refillable water bottle
  • Modest clothing for mosques and shrines
  • Some cash for snacks, tips and small purchases
  • Your camera or phone, and any personal medication
  • An overnight bag and your passport/ID for intercity travel

Dress & etiquette

Modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is best; women need a headscarf inside mosque and gurdwara prayer halls (our guides carry spares) and shoes come off at religious sites. Please ask before photographing people. See what to wear and mosque etiquette.

Accessibility

Parts of this tour involve walking on uneven ground, steps, and in places soft sand, and a few sites have limited step-free access. We can adapt the pace and route for reduced mobility, wheelchairs, families with strollers or older travelers, tell us your needs and see our accessible Lahore tours guide.

Cancellation

Flexible, fair terms, the exact conditions for your dates are confirmed in writing when you book. Full details on our cancellation & refund policy page.

FAQs

How reliable is the Skardu flight?
It’s scenic but weather-dependent, especially in winter and shoulder seasons; flights can be delayed or cancelled at short notice. We always plan a road contingency alongside this package.
Is 5 days enough for Skardu?
Yes, flying in frees up almost the whole trip for sightseeing rather than driving, so 5 days covers Shangrila, the cold desert, Shigar and Khaplu comfortably.
Can we add Deosai or Hunza?
Deosai can replace a day here in season (June–September). For Hunza and the Karakoram Highway as well, see our longer Lahore & Skardu or 13-Day Northern Areas packages instead.
What if our flight is cancelled?
We hold a pre-agreed road contingency (via the Karakoram Highway) so you’re never stranded, though it does add travel days, we talk this through with you before booking.
Is this tour private?
Yes, every tour is fully private: your own party, your own licensed guide and your own air-conditioned vehicle. Nothing is shared with strangers, and the pace flexes around you.
Do you provide hotel or airport pickup?
Yes. We collect you from your Lahore hotel or from Allama Iqbal International Airport at no extra cost within the city, and drop you back afterwards. We track your flight, so delays are no problem.
Can this tour be customized?
Absolutely. Tell us your interests, pace and any must-sees or must-avoids, and we tailor the trip around you.
What languages do your guides speak?
English-speaking licensed guides are our standard. Italian, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Arabic-speaking guides can be arranged on request, subject to availability.
How and when do I pay?
No payment is taken online. We confirm availability and a firm total price first; a deposit secures your dates, with the balance due before or at the start of the tour. Bank transfer, Wise, card and PayPal are accepted.
What is your cancellation policy?
Fair and flexible, exact terms are confirmed in writing when you book. See our cancellation & refund policy for details.
Is Pakistan safe for tourists?
The main visitor areas are busy, welcoming and well-policed, and all our tours run with licensed guides and private drivers. See our honest safety overview and check your government’s current advisory.

Send your dates and group size via the Request-to-Book form or WhatsApp. We reply with availability and an exact price, usually within a few hours.
