Overview

This is our most complete northern-areas package for travelers who want to see it all without the multi-week commitment of the Grand Northern loop: the green Kaghan Valley, the legendary Karakoram Highway, Hunza’s forts and glaciers, the Khunjerab Pass to the Chinese border, and a Skardu/Baltistan extension for the lakes and cold desert.

It’s a private, tailor-made 13-day journey, we handle vehicles, jeeps, hotels/guesthouses and guiding throughout, adjusting the pace and route to your dates and interests. Priced on request for your group size.

Itinerary

1. Day 1 · LahoreMughal Lahore heritage, Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and the Walled City.
2. Day 2 · Lahore to Islamabad & TaxilaDrive to Islamabad via the motorway, with a stop at the Taxila museum and Gandhara ruins; overnight Islamabad.
3. Day 3 · Islamabad to NaranInto the Kaghan Valley via Balakot; overnight in Naran.
4. Day 4 · Naran to ChilasSaif-ul-Malook Lake by jeep, then over Babusar Top and down to Chilas on the Karakoram Highway; overnight Chilas.
5. Day 5 · Chilas to HunzaFollow the Karakoram Highway through Gilgit to Karimabad in Hunza; overnight Hunza.

Good to know

• Best May–September, when the Babusar and Khunjerab passes are open; both close with winter snow.
• Long driving days over mountain roads, this is a journey for travelers who enjoy the road as much as the destinations.
• Altitude reaches over 4,700 m at Khunjerab, mild altitude effects are possible; we pace the route sensibly.
• The Skardu extension can be trimmed if you’d prefer a shorter Hunza-focused version, ask us to tailor it.

• Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) or warm layers for cold desert/winter nights
• A refillable water bottle
• Modest clothing for mosques and shrines
• Some cash for snacks, tips and small purchases
• Your camera or phone, and any personal medication
• An overnight bag and your passport/ID for intercity travel

Dress & etiquette

Modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is best; women need a headscarf inside mosque and gurdwara prayer halls (our guides carry spares) and shoes come off at religious sites. Please ask before photographing people. See what to wear and mosque etiquette.

Accessibility

Parts of this tour involve walking on uneven ground, steps, and in places soft sand, and a few sites have limited step-free access.
