Visitors coming from within Pakistan reach it by road from Lahore (about two hours); pilgrims crossing from India use the separate visa-free Kartarpur Corridor, which has its own permit system.

What to bring

• Comfortable walking shoes for uneven old-city ground

Dress & etiquette
