Overview

Rohtas Fort, built by Sher Shah Suri in the 1540s to subdue this region, is one of South Asia’s most impressive garrison fortresses, 4 km of colossal walls, monumental gates and bastions, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wandering its ramparts is unforgettable for history and architecture lovers.

In fairness about the distance: Rohtas is about 280 km from Lahore, roughly 3.5 hours each way. A single day is possible with a very early start, but it makes for a long ~12-hour day. We honestly recommend an overnight, ideally combined with the nearby Khewra Salt Mine.

Dress & etiquette
