Overview

The Khewra Salt Mine is the second-largest in the world and one of Pakistan’s most fascinating attractions, a labyrinth of tunnels, brine pools and chambers, including a mosque built entirely from illuminated salt bricks. A little electric railway carries visitors into the mountain.

Being honest about the logistics: Khewra is about 245 km from Lahore, roughly 3 hours each way. This makes for a long day (around 12 hours door to door) with an early start. It’s very doable, but if you’d prefer a relaxed pace, we recommend an overnight, often combined with nearby Rohtas Fort.

Itinerary

3. LunchEn route or near the mine.
4. Optional: Rohtas FortIf combining as an overnight, add Rohtas on day two.

• Honestly a long day, expect ~6 hours of driving. An early start is essential.
• For a calmer experience, combine with Rohtas Fort as a 2-day overnight loop.
• Comfortable shoes; the mine is cool inside, a light layer helps.
• Not ideal for those who dislike long car journeys.

Dress & etiquette
