The frontier kingdom of Chitral beneath Tirich Mir, gateway to the Kalash and Shandur.

Chitral is a remote frontier region beneath Tirich Mir (7,708 m), the highest peak of the Hindu Kush — a land of forts, polo, and the unique Kalash people. It’s one of Pakistan’s most atmospheric and least-visited corners.

From Lahore we head north through Swat to Chitral, visit the Kalash valleys, and (on longer itineraries) cross the legendary Shandur Pass — home to the world’s highest polo ground and the summer Shandur Polo Festival.

  • Chitral town, fort and bazaar beneath Tirich Mir
