Swat is one of Pakistan’s greenest and most historic valleys — once a centre of Gandhara Buddhist civilisation and now known for its rivers, forests and alpine scenery. Highlights range from ancient stupas and rock carvings to the ski resort of Malam Jabba and the high valley of Kalam.
From Lahore we travel north into Swat, exploring its Buddhist heritage, bazaars and mountain villages. It’s an easier, greener northern trip than the high Karakoram, and beautiful in spring and summer.
