Meet the ancient Kalash people of the Hindu Kush — festivals, culture and stunning valleys.

The Kalash are an ancient, non-Muslim people of the Hindu Kush with their own religion, language, dress and festivals, living in the remote valleys of Rumbur, Bumburet and Birir near Chitral. Staying among them is one of the most extraordinary cultural experiences in Pakistan.

We begin in Lahore, fly or drive north to Chitral, and spend time in the Kalash valleys — ideally timed to a festival such as Chilam Joshi (spring), Uchaw (summer) or Chawmos (winter). Remote and rugged, this is real off-the-beaten-path travel, arranged with trusted local hosts.

  • Time your trip to a Kalash festival (dates vary — ask us)
