Historic Gurdwara Panja Sahib on a Sikh heritage tour

Overview

Gurdwara Panja Sahib at Hasan Abdal, near Taxila, is one of the most sacred Sikh sites in Pakistan, revered for the rock said to bear the handprint (panja) of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It’s a deeply important pilgrimage stop, especially around Baisakhi.

Honestly, Hasan Abdal is about 340 km from Lahore, roughly 4.5 hours each way, so while a single very long day is possible, we recommend an overnight (often combined with Taxila or Islamabad) for a calmer, more meaningful visit. Priced on request because the format shapes the cost.

Entry requirements differ by nationality and change over time, especially for Indian passport holders and the Kartarpur Corridor’s separate permit system. We check the current rules for your documents before anything is booked.

This flexible outline is confirmed around your interests, opening hours and traffic.

  1. Pickup: Meet your guide at Lahore hotel; travel is by Private A/C vehicle.
  2. Panja Sahib Tour from Lahore: Visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib at Hasan Abdal, home to the sacred handprint rock, a longer journey we arrange as a comfortable overnight or multi-day extension.

Good to know

  • Distance from Lahore makes an overnight far more comfortable than a same-day return.
  • Pairs excellently with Taxila’s Gandhara sites and Islamabad.
  • Baisakhi (April) sees major pilgrimage gatherings here, book well ahead.
  • Head covering required; langar available.

Before you go

What to bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes for uneven old-city ground
  • Sun protection in summer (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) or warm layers in winter
  • A refillable water bottle
  • Modest clothing for mosques and shrines
  • Some cash for snacks, tips and small purchases
  • Your camera or phone, and any personal medication
  • A head covering for gurdwaras (scarves are also provided)

Dress & etiquette

Modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is best; women need a headscarf inside mosque and gurdwara prayer halls (our guides carry spares) and shoes come off at religious sites. Please ask before photographing people. See what to wear and mosque etiquette.

FAQs

Booking facts: Every tour is private and customizable, with licensed guides and hotel or airport pickup. See our booking and payment policy, cancellation terms, what to wear and current safety guide.

Can I really do Panja Sahib in one day from Lahore?
Physically yes, but it’s ~9 hours of driving for a short visit, we’ll arrange it if you insist, but strongly suggest an overnight or combining it with Islamabad/Taxila.
What’s the best way to include it?
As part of a 5–7 day Sikh pilgrimage, or a Lahore + Islamabad extension that folds in Hasan Abdal and Taxila.
