Overview
Lahore Fort rewards a proper visit. Built and rebuilt by successive Mughal emperors, it’s a layered complex of palaces, halls and gardens: the towering Alamgiri Gate, the Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khas, the delicate Naulakha Pavilion, the famous Picture Wall, and the breathtaking Sheesh Mahal — the Palace of Mirrors — built for Shah Jahan.
With a guide who knows the dynasties and the details, the Fort stops being a set of pretty buildings and becomes a readable history of Mughal power.
