The 'Land of Giants' — the world's second-highest plateau, plus Skardu's lakes and forts.

The Deosai Plateau sits above 4,000 m — a boundless expanse of wildflowers, streams and wildlife including the Himalayan brown bear, open only in the short summer. Paired with Skardu’s turquoise lakes, deserts and ancient forts, it’s one of Pakistan’s great wilderness adventures.

We fly (or drive) to Skardu, explore its valleys and lakes, then cross Deosai to the beautiful Sheosar Lake. Weather and season permitting, this is raw high-altitude wilderness with few people and enormous skies.

Highlights

  • Cross the vast Deosai Plateau (~4,100 m)
  • Sheosar Lake and summer wildflowers
  • Skardu’s Shangrila/Lower Kachura and Upper Kachura lakes

FAQs

When is Deosai open?
Roughly July to September. It’s snowbound and inaccessible the rest of the year.
Is Deosai high altitude?
Yes — over 4,000 m. We build in acclimatisation and keep the pace sensible.
Fly or drive to Skardu?
Flying is fast but weather-dependent; the road is spectacular but long. We plan for both. See our Lahore to Skardu guide.
Will I see wildlife?
Deosai is home to the Himalayan brown bear, marmots and birds — sightings aren’t guaranteed but possible.
