Friday Prayers (Jummah): A Visitor’s Guide

On Fridays, mosques in Lahore hold congregational Jummah prayers around midday, and mosques close to non-worshippers during the prayer (roughly an hour). Plan mosque visits for the morning or later afternoon on Fridays, and expect some businesses to pause briefly around prayer time.

What it means for sightseeing

Badshahi Mosque, Wazir Khan Mosque and others are busiest and closed to tourists during Jummah (about 12:30โ€“2pm, varying by season). Visit before or after. Other monuments (the Fort, gardens, museums) are unaffected.

Etiquette

If you’re near a mosque at prayer time, dress modestly, keep noise down and don’t photograph worshippers. Non-Muslims generally shouldn’t enter prayer halls during the congregation. See mosque etiquette.

We’ll time it right

Our guides schedule Friday itineraries around prayer times automatically, so you never arrive at a closed mosque.
